Credit by Exam

CBE End of Fall Registration will be open
November 22 - December 11, 2024 

  • CBE will be offered for most MATH courses on the Fall 2024 Timetable of Classes.
  • The deadline for registration is 3:00pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The exam fee is $10 per credit hour.  The fee will be charged to the student’s account; students will need to pay the fee through the Bursar’s office.

Credit-By-Exams will be given during the final exam period for the course, for classroom courses offered during the semester.

Once registered, further instructions regarding the exam dates, times and locations will be emailed to the student’s VT email account no later than Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Your exam will be graded by the instructor (passing requires 70% or the class average). You should receive your results within 72 hours of taking the exam.

You may contact Sadie Powell in 460 McBryde if you have not received your results within 1 week from taking the exam.

To take these exams, you MUST bring 

  1. Your student ID as you will not be able to take the exam without it. 
  2.  A print-out of the registration confirmation email that you received from the department.

IMPORTANT:

  • Only currently enrolled undergraduate students are eligible for special examinations.
  • Students cannot receive credit by exam if they have previously audited or enrolled in the course at Virginia Tech.
  • Students cannot receive credit by exam for MATH 1524 or MATH 2534.
  • University rules prohibit more than one try at Credit-By-Exam for each course, and a student’s total credit by exam cannot exceed 12 credit hours. Violation of this policy will be reported to the honor system.
