Earning MATH 1014 Credit
There are several ways to earn credit for MATH 1014 (Precalculus) at Virginia Tech. Students are encouraged to discuss their options with their academic advisors. Not all students are required to earn credit for MATH 1014.
Students who see "Needs Trig Module" in the Transfer Credits Accepted by Institution section of their transcript are eligible for the VT ALEKS Trigonometry Module, an adaptive and personalized online learning tool that utilizes the ALEKS web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. Trigonometry Module eligibility and a passing score (80% of topics learned) will convert "Needs Trig Module" into MATH 1014 transfer credit.

Eligible students who feel they are already proficient in precalculus material can elect to pay for and take an exam to earn credit for MATH 1014.

Any student may enroll in MATH 1014 at Virginia Tech.
This option was only available to students who entered VT in the 2020-21 academic year or earlier.
Virginia Tech offered Conditional Advanced Standing for MATH 1014 for students who presented a MATH SAT score of 590 or higher or a MATH ACT score of 25 or higher. Students who qualified for MATH 1014 Conditional Advanced Standing may earn credit for MATH 1014 after completing qualifying requirements in MATH 1025. The Conditional Advanced Standing program is run by the Registrar's Office.
